Crowdsource a video poem
This project is an experiment in crowdsourcing, that is, drawing upon the contributions of others to create a single, unified, coherent work.
For this assignment, teams of two will join forces to create a video poem with words and visuals culled from other people. There are lots of ways you could approach this – be creative!
So, you could:
- Start a thread on Facebook in which you post a word or phrase, then ask others to add to the phrase until it becomes a poem.
- Create an “exquisite corpse” poem where you ask people to contribute words (adjective-noun-verb-adjective-noun, etc.) without knowing the contributions of others.
- Post a set of words on Twitter, and ask people to send in photos or video clips that represent those words in some way.
- Shoot a random set of people speaking individual words, then assemble that video into a poem.
- Take the poem you created in a Facebook thread, and ask a random set of people to speak each word backwards. Reverse the clips and assemble it back into the poem.
Parameters:
- Final video should be ~:30 – 1:00 in length
- At least ten other people should actively contribute to the project
- Final video should include words and videos. Words can be audio or text (or some other form??)
- 90% of the project should be generated by others – your role is as masterminds and aggregators
- Properly compressed and uploaded to Tumblr
- Abides by rules of Fair Use
PRO-TIP:
- Give your contributors a deadline for submission. People work better with deadlines. And make it early.
