24 Hours, 24 Artists

24x.jpg

On January 2nd and 3rd, 2009 (yes, starting tomorrow!), 24 artists from around the world will be taking turns performing, presenting, and pontificating in a 24-hour long live webcast. The goal is to celebrate the 24th anniversary of Jump-Start Performance Company’s “Performance Parties” in San Antonio, TX. Videoblogger extraordinaire Michael Verdi is a company member, so he’s taking the celebration online with this day-long webcast.

I’m excited to be a part of this event, where I’ll be creating a handmade 16mm film, live, with your guidance, and projecting it via the web at the end of the hour. You can chat with me - and all the artists - live during the broadcast, and I’ll need your help to make this thing, so you better be there. Tune in here on January 3rd from 1-2pm EST to join me in the experiment.

For a complete schedule of all the amazing international artists, filmmakers, videobloggers, actors, performance artists, culture jammers, and all around rascals, go here. The webcast kicks off at 10:30 EST January 2nd.

More info from Michael Verdi at the 24×24 home page, follow the event on Twitter, or hook up with us on Facebook.

And here’s to a fantastic 2009. Happy New Year!

Pillow fight

A long overdue document of the giant communal pillow fight at Rosa Parks Circle, downtown Grand Rapids, September 2008. Watch it here in HD.

An event hosted by Rob Bliss Urban Experiments, who also engineered a huge zombie walk through downtown Grand Rapids, with more boisterous events to come, no doubt.

If only these events weren’t sanctioned by the City; much like the city-sponsored Park(ing) Day here, they’re great, but they don’t quite live up to the subversive potential to reclaim public space like Improv Everywhere.

But it’s a start.

A little voodle made with Processing and data visualization, courtesy Radiohead’s “House of Cards” project. Made with Processing, AfterEffects, and Final Cut Pro using original data scans of Thom Yorke provided by Radiohead. This took many hours, and I believe I saw my computer begin to smoke a little.
